Nova Scotia Labour Board Update

February 7, 2013

SEIU, The Teamsters and OMNI have been meeting at the Labour Board during the first few days of February.

SEIU has always maintained that the ballots from the previous vote should  be counted and the workers’ wishes respected. The Teamsters and OMNI have not agreed.

On February 7th the Labour Board has now ordered a ‘run-off’ vote where all OMNI/ Empire/ Novacos/ GDI workers will decide between SEIU and the Teamsters. The vote will take place on February 27th and 28th.

If workers vote for SEIU, we will form worker committees and begin a real negotiation process with worker participation. Should the Teamsters win, all workers will be stuck with the legally-binding subpar contract currently in place for Teamster members.
